HTC Rolling Out Android 4.4.4 OTA Update for HTC One M7 and M8 GPE
HTC has started rolling out the new Android 4.4.4 KitKat OTA update for its HTC One M7 and M8 Google Play Edition (GPE) devices, following its official roll out of Android 4.4.3 KitKatfirmware just a few weeks ago.
According to Android geeks, the new Android 4.4.4 update brings security patches, improved stability and bug fixes for battery life issues on the HTC One smartphones.
Some of the key security changes added to the new Android 4.4.4 update include fixed a concurrency bug in OpenSSLHeartbleedTest, Block access to java.lang.Object.getClass in injected Java objects, CTS tests for OpenSSL’s early CCS issue, and CTS test for Heartbleed Vulnerability in SSLSocket.
Although the new update may not feature any major visual changes, but it is always better to run the latest firmware than using an older version with security flaws.
As the new Android 4.4.4 update is being rolled out in phases, it may take some time before it is available for download in your country or region.
According to some reports, it might happen later in July or in August. However, you can manually check for new Android updates by navigating to Settings -> About Phone -> System Updates and tapping the ‘Check Now’ button. The Android 4.4.4 update is around 20MB in size, improving the KitKat experience.
Various reports also suggest that HTC One mini 2, HTC One E8 and HTC One mini M4 are likely to receive the new Android 4.4.4 update in August, followed by the Android 5.0 ‘L’ update within 90 days of receiving the final software from Google.
Here is what the company stated about its Android 4.4.4 software roll out, in a recent press release, as quoted from IB Times:
“HTC Customers and Enthusiasts, HTC is excited about the new features in Android 5.0 Lrelease and we can’t wait to share them with you. We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible as part of our HTC Advantage program.”
“We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 worldwide within 9 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices. HTC Advantage protects your smartphone investment, ensuring you have the best smartphone experience long after purchase,” they added.
Other devices with Android 4.4.4 KitKat update are Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Moto E, Moto G, Moto X, Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, and Sony Xperia Ultra Z.
